Staufen – Old Town and Culture
The “city of Faust” is located at the bottom of the Black Forest above the Rhine Valley, embedded in the vinyards of the Markgräflerland. On the horizon you can see the Vosges mountains.
Staufen’s hilly landscape invites to both biking and hiking. The history of Staufen reaches far back and the city is full of mysterious places. The magician and alchemist Dr. Faust supposedly lived in one of winding alleys after he was called for by the lords of the castle to make gold for them. However, Mephistopheles caught him here in 1539. The city’s magic fascinates visitors up to the present day.
